The Butterfly Series, Book One: Cocoon Rooted
A mountain stood above a valley where everyone counted something. The birds counted songs. The squirrels counted acorns. The people counted awards, grades, followers, and victories.
The mountain counted nothing. It simply stood, holding snow in winter and sending water into the valley each spring.
A girl climbed partway up and asked, “How do you know you matter if you do not keep score?”
The mountain answered through the wind, “My worth is not a number. I matter because I am here, and what I offer cannot always be measured.”
The girl returned to the valley remembering that numbers can describe part of a life, but they cannot contain a whole person. A grade cannot measure kindness. A total cannot measure courage. A score cannot measure how deeply you are loved.
Rooted Reflection
- What number sometimes affects how you feel about yourself?
- What important quality cannot be measured?
- What do you offer simply by being you?
Glow Notes
- My worth is bigger than a number.
- I am more than my performance.
- My presence has value.
Mountain Practice
Sit tall and place both feet on the floor. Take four steady breaths. With each breath, repeat, “I do not have to earn my worth.”
