Chapter Four: The Oak Tree That Grew Crooked

The Butterfly Series, Book One: Cocoon Rooted

At the edge of a meadow stood an oak tree with a trunk that curved toward the east. The other trees rose straight into the sky, and the oak often wished she looked like them.

She tried to hide her bends beneath thick leaves. She worried that the forest saw only what was different.

One windy evening, a storm swept across the meadow. The straight trees strained against the gusts, but the oak moved with them. Every curve in her trunk told the story of a season she had survived.

When morning came, birds rested in her branches and children sat in the shade created by her unusual shape. The oak finally saw that she was not beautiful despite her curves. Her curves were part of her beauty.

You do not have to look, learn, speak, or grow exactly like anyone else. The parts of you shaped by life deserve understanding, not shame.

Rooted Reflection

  1. What makes you different in a way you are learning to appreciate?
  2. What challenge has helped shape your strength?
  3. How can you speak more kindly to yourself?

Glow Notes

  • My differences belong in the world.
  • My story has shaped strength in me.
  • I do not have to be perfect to be worthy.

Tree Posture Practice

Stand with both feet planted. Relax your shoulders and lift your head. Imagine roots beneath your feet and branches above you. Say, “I can bend and still remain rooted.”
